Meeting was called to Order @ 3:00

Chairperson Michael Goodbody asked for a quick review of the October agenda items to help clarify the minutes and to bring everyone on board with what was discussed. Dr. Cabello gave the following recap:

Common Core
- the focus will be on reading and math; posters will be made for every classroom
- strategies and rules will be practiced in all classes
- school wide we’ll be using QTEL strategies and Thinking Maps

2. The minutes were approved with the following amendment:

“All teachers will participate in structured collaborative PLC like groups during schools hours at designated times. Edit: PLC like groups during designated collaboration times.
Moved: Michael Goodbody
Second
All in favor

3. Dress Code - Outerwear
Matt Harvey asked if gray could be for PE only. There was discussion about only white and maroon for the RMS colors. It would be easier to spot students not dressing out for PE.

Moved by Matt Harvey; seconded by Arturo Cabello:
“Remove sales of gray Roosevelt Polo shirts in the future and designate gray as a PE color.”
All in favor =11
Opposed = 1
Abstentions - none
Note: sales to include black Roosevelt IB sweaters. Black will not be promoted or sold with Roosevelt logos, but is stilled allowed as an option to parents.

4. Disaster Preparedness
Comments and suggestions included:
- having drills more frequently
- need for greater variety of drills
- organize a Safety Committee
- update school policies and procedures and send to teachers for review
- reassign where classes go on the South Field – too bunched together as it is now
- clarify/determine where students go if at lunch; on way to a class – backwards or forward?
- pairing students up; teachers having a partner
- Mr. Valdez shared some debriefing notes; this topic will be brought back to SGT in December for further discussion

5. Organization of Children’s Presentations
School will provide adequate sound for school events – as per a parent request.

6. Student tardiness
- teachers should not hold students into passing period
- administration will look into organizing tardy sweeps
- admin will notify teachers that a tardy sweep will take place; teachers lock doors
- Saturday school cannot be mandatory so an appropriate consequence will be administered
- after school may be a better option; we might consider an “Opt Out “ form for parents to complete for lunch detention
- revisit next time after Admin considers

7. Skateboard policy
Skateboard and scooter lockers have been ordered and are going to be installed.
Suggestion was made to cover this topic on My Big Campus and RooTube.

Until skateboard and scooter locks are installed, students must leave/check their scooters or boards with a teacher or administration during school hours. Skateboards and scooters not picked up can be retrieved the following day.

8. Upgrading Telephone Lines
Teachers would like to be able to call parents with area codes other than 619 and 858 – many parents have these area codes and making contact by phone is not possible from classroom phones. Admin to look into whether or not classroom phones can be upgraded and report back.

Round table:

Ginsberg
– if ASB is to be successful, Mr. Ginsberg needs help. No other band teacher also does ASB.
-the Winter Concert is not going to happen because the auditorium is completely booked by SDCPA and Junior Theatre for all of December. Mr. Ginsberg asked if school classes and clubs can be made a priority so they can have access to the auditorium for performances. It was asked if the Winter Concert could be held outside. It might be a little chilly in December. It was also asked if there will be a Winter Concert during school hours. Concerts will be in January.

Harvey
– Federal Survey cards go back to PE not 1st period teacher.

Matthew Gates/student representative
-had questions on the issue of helmets being worn by students who ride to school – wondering how that would be enforced
- Admin will talk with SDUSD legal, ramifications of students without helmets on campus
- it was suggested we talk with SDUSD police department/SD City Police as well; possibly have them issue tickets to violators

Trueblood
– MSAP auditors will be touring classroom touring classrooms

Tiffany Neal–Iddings
-thanked SGT for having her
-YMCA/PrimeTime wants to align their afterschool program with what goes on during the school day
-if we have any concerns about YMCA we should email Tiffany

Respectfully submitted,

Bobbe Abts
